Greenteam
The Green Team are busy preparing for the third Green Flag which is the Water Flag.
Our school slogan is:
- Please save water,
- Don’t be bold,
- Turn off the tap,
- Water is like gold.
Sabrina Joyce in 4th class came up with this slogan.
St. Anne’s Green-Team’s Easter News
In our Green-Team’s meetings we talk about what we are going to do to help our school stay a green school. We have been quite busy during the year. We are working on getting our 3rd green flag which is our water flag. We installed green buttons on each toilet so when you flush the toilet you press the green button the flush will stop to save water. The green-team checks the water meter every Monday to see if we are increasing or decreasing our water consumption. We also installed push taps so they will go off themselves.
Jim has been helping us in the garden and is now coming on very well. At Christmas Home Base gave the school a Christmas tree and each class made decorations out of recyclable materials. At the start of the year the green-team visited Sonairte.
In our school we had our water action day where everyone wore blue and brought a bottle of water instead of juice. Each class did water poetry, designed posters and did water experiments.
Ms Geoghan’s 6th class and Ms. O’Sullivan’s 5th class are taking part in the Incredible Edible competition and are working hard on growing vegetables. We try our best to keep our school a green-school and we hope you now think so too.
Environmental Awareness
Environmental Awareness is very much encouraged in St. Anne’s. The children take part in classes especially geared to making them more aware of how important a healthy environment is to them, their families and their pets.
They learn about the importance of waste management and energy conservation. Presently we have two Green Flags and will now start working to gain our third Green Flag which relates to water. St. Anne’s is the only school in Navan to hold two Green Flags and we are very proud of this achievement.
